AP Computer Science
Pass the AP Computer Science Exam and get ahead of the curve in college.
Overview
Colleges often recognize the achievement reached by students who pass the AP exam. While challenging, the AP exam is a great opportunity for students to earn college credit while in high school.
The AP Computer Science A course gets students familiar with the concepts and tools of computer science as they learn a subset of the Java programming language. For students enrolled either through their educational institutions or CollegeBoard, the course teaches them how to
- Design a program, develop the algorithms it needs, and write code to implement them
- Test program code and correct errors
- Adequately document and explain how to program code works
The AP Computer Science Principles course teaches students the understanding of computational thinking and analysis.
Exam Prep
In 2020 the pass rate (3+ score) was 70.4% for Computer Science A and 71.6% for Computer Science Principles. While this pass rate is high compared to other AP exams, the test is regarded as one of the more difficult with fewer students attempting it over other exams regarding it as easier. Even fewer get the highest score of 5, with only 25.6% and 10.9% achieving it for Computer Science A and Computer Science Principles respectively.
